Supreme Court upholds 10% reservations for Economically weaker sections (EWS)

New Delhi : A 5-judge constitutional bench of the Supreme Court of India has upheld the validity of the EWS Quota in the 103rd Amendment of the Constitution. 3 judges out of the 5-judge bench upholds EWS Quota (J Dinesh Maheshwari, J Bela Trivedi & J JB Pardiwala). CJI UU Lalit & J Ravindra Bhat strike it down. The 3-stated that the EWS quota does not breach the basic structure of the Indian Constitution. As per this, the 10 percent EWS reservation created by the Central Government in admissions and government jobs would continue.
