Odisha imposes Lockdown from 5 to 19th May as COVID cases rise

Bhubaneswar: In view of rising cases, the Odisha government on Sunday has announced a 14-day lockdown in the entire state from the morning of 5th May to the morning of 19th May 2021. In addition to this, the ongoing weekend shutdown will continue to be effective in the urban areas. Vaccination will also continue during the lockdown.

However, there’ll be no restriction on health and other emergency services. People can buy food, vegetables and other essential items within 500 meter radius of their homes from 6 am t0 12 pm.

All the economic activities including Agriculture, industries, construction activities, livelihood activities will continue while adhering COVID-19 guidelines.

Odisha has reported 8015 new cases on Saturday which includes 4568 quarantine cases and 3447 local cases. With this the state’s COVID-19 tally has reached 4.62 lakh including 69,453 active cases.

Announcing the lockdown Odisha Chief Secretary Suresh Mohapatra said, the lockdown is necessary to break the chain of transmission. The second wave is spreading very fast and infecting young population also. Sharp rise in cases also putting heavy pressure on state’s health infrastructure.
