New Delhi: While TMC chief Mamta Banerjee is attacking the BJP for the draft NRC list in Assam, the BJP today hit back to the Chief Minister saying there should be similar exercise in West Bengal to identify illegal migrants. With the BJP targeting half of the 42 Lok Sabha seats from Bengal, this new demand by BJP could intensify its war with TMC.
BJP General Secretary in charge of West-Bengal Kailash Vijayvargiya has said that there should be a similar exercise in West Bengal to identify illegal migrants from Bangladesh which could be in crores, reports the Indian Express.
“The youth in West Bengal want to identify the illegal migrants from Bangladesh as they are facing several problems like unemployment and law and order issues. The BJP supports their demand,” Kailash Vijayvargiya, BJP general secretary in charge of West Bengal.
“If the final draft NRC in Assam found 40 lakh illegal residents, the number could run into crores in West Bengal. In Assam, the Supreme Court has monitored it. This can be done in West Bengal too,” he said.
The BJP’s demand for a similar exercise in West Bengal may intensify its political battle with the TMC.
