New Delhi: Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and the richest man in the world, completed the USD 44 billion takeover of the social media giant Twitter on Thursday. After his acquisition, Musk sacked Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal and legal policy, trust, and safety head Vijaya Gadde.

After the agreement was reached before the court-imposed deadline of October 28, billionaire Musk posted his initial response on the platform. Musk tweeted on Friday, “the bird is freed,” following his earlier declaration that he will manage Twitter in accordance with free speech principles to the extent permitted by the laws of the nations in which Twitter operates.

Musk updated his Twitter bio to ‘Chief Twit’ on Thursday as he sent out a message to advertisers and his followers, stating reasons behind his decision to acquire the microblogging platform.

“The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence,” the billionaire said in a statement.
