Sensex rallies 1000 points on positive global cues

Mumbai: After the bloodbath on Thursday, Indian indices opened gap-up on Friday with Nifty above 16,500 amid positive global markets.

At 09:16 IST, the BSE Sensex was up 963.28 points or 1.77% at 55493.19, and the Nifty was up 289.80 points or 1.78% at 16537.80. About 1544 shares have advanced, 611 shares declined, and 68 shares are unchanged.

Tata Motors, UPL, IndusInd Bank, Tata Steel and Adani Ports were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers were Britannia Industries and Nestle and Cipla.

Among the Asian  stock markets, Tokyo Stock Exchange’s Nikkei index rose by 383.76 points or 1.47% to 26,353.58 points, while Nong Kong’s Hang Seng slipped 102.94 points or 0.45% to 22,798.62 points.
