Sensex crashes over 1000 points amid rising Ukraine tensions

Mumbai: Amid rising Russia-Ukraine tensions, Indian indices opened gap down on February 22 with Nifty below 17100 racking weak global markets.

The BSE Sensex was down 984.56 points or 1.71% at 56699.03, and the Nifty was down 281.20 points or 1.63% at 16925.50. About 254 shares have advanced, 1932 shares declined, and 48 shares are unchanged.

UPL, Dr Reddy’s Labs, L&T, Asian Paints, TCS and Coal India were among major losers on the Nifty, while only gainer was ONGC.

Asian indices plunge

Among the Asian Indices, Japan’s Nikkei dropped by 582.97 points or 2.17% to 26,327.90 points, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng slipped by 764.69 points or 3.16% to  23405.38 points.
