NewDelhi : In a dramatic last-minute move, the Congress unveiled a surprising twist in its strategy for Amethi and Raebareli. Contrary to expectations of Rahul Gandhi spearheading the campaign to reclaim Amethi, he has been named as the candidate for Raebareli, the constituency recently vacated by his mother Sonia Gandhi upon her transition to the Rajya Sabha.
Meanwhile, in Amethi, the Congress stronghold that switched allegiance to the BJP five years ago, the party will field Kishori Lal Sharma, a steadfast loyalist of the Gandhi family. Despite efforts, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra declined to contest from Raebareli, a constituency she diligently nurtured on behalf of her mother for over a decade.
This crucial decision by the Congress comes after weeks of mounting suspense and speculation, finally unveiled on Friday.
Before filing of his nomination, Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to lead a grand roadshow today. Joining him will be Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge, alongside senior leaders Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who are set to grace the event with their presence.
