Markets open flat on 2023’s first trading day

Mumbai : Indian indices opened flat in the first trading day of 2023 with the Nifty above 18100.

The BSE Sensex was up 118.55 points or 0.19% at 60,959.29, and the Nifty was up 40.40 points or 0.22% at 18,145.70. About 1193 shares have advanced, 535 shares declined, and 180 shares are unchanged.

Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Hindalco Industries, ONGC and IndusInd Bank were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers were Bajaj Auto, Asian Paints, Maruti Suzuki, ITC and Sun Pharma.

Tata Motors has gained due its impressive sales in December, while Bajaj auto has declined by 1% due to weak sales in December. Bajaj Auto’s total Sales down 22% at 2,81,486 units against 3,62,470 units( YoY).
