New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced polling dates for Lok Sabha elections 2024 and Assembly election in 4 states. Addressing a press conference Chief Election commissioner Rajeev Kumar said, the voting will be conducted in 7 stages. First phase to be held on 19th April, second phase on 26th April, third phase on 7th May, fourth phase on 13th May, fifth phase on 20th May, sixth phase on 25th May and the seventh phase on 1st June. Counting will be conducted on 4th June 2024.
Additionally, assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Odisha, along with bypolls in 26 seats, were declared by the poll body. This time, an estimated 97 crore individuals are eligible to exercise their voting rights across more than 10.5 lakh polling stations.
The poll will be conducted in 4 phases in Odisha- May 13th (4th phase), May 20th (5th phase), May 25th (6th phase), June 1st (7th phase).
In the previous cycle, Lok Sabha polls were announced on March 10 and conducted over seven phases starting from April 11, with vote counting concluding on May 23.
The present Lok Sabha’s term expires on June 16, necessitating the constitution of a new House before that date. Concurrently, the terms of various state assemblies are set to conclude at different times in June.
