COVID-19 : Over 5000 new cases in last 24 hours, tally could cross 1 lakh on Monday

Bhubaneswar: With more than 5000 new cases in the last 24 hours, India’s total number of cases crossed the 96000-mark on Monday morning which includes 3029 deaths. With the current rate of growth in the confirmed cases the tally may cross the 1 lakh mark on Monday.

However, despite the rising numbers, India remains at the 11th spot in the list of worst-affected countries below Iran.

As per the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry on Monday morning, the country’s total cases rose to 96169, which include 56316 active cases and 3029 deaths while 36823 people have been recovered. In the last 24 hours, India has added as many as 5242 new confirmed cases.

With 2715 recoveries in the last 24 hours, India’s recovery rate has improved sharply to 38 per cent. Meanwhile, the country has reported 157 deaths in the last 24 hours keeping the death rate has declined to 3.1 per cent.

On Sunday the government of India extended the nationwide lockdown for another two weeks to 31st May. However, in its revised guidelines the union home ministry has empowered the states governments to take decisions on the deciding the zones. MHA has also allowed sport event but without spectators.
