Despite rise in fresh cases, India’s positivity rate eases to 17.5%

New Delhi: After reporting a downward trend for two days, India has once again witnessed rise in daily cases and fatalities.

According to the data released by the Union Health ministry, India has reported 3,48,421 new cases and 4235 deaths in the last 24 hours against  3,29,942 cases and 3876 deaths in the previous day.

However, despite rise in new cases, India’s positivity rate has declined due to higher number of tests conducted yesterday. India conducted record 1983804 tests on 11th May, which means that positivity rate has further eased to 17.5 percent from 17.9 per cent in the previous day.

Meanwhile, for the second straight day the number of recoveries has surpassed the number of fresh cases as over 3.55 lakh people recovered yesterday. With this India’s number of active cases now stands at 37.04 lakh.

Yesterday the Health Ministry said that the drop in daily cases is being reported for the previous two days were early trends. However, as many as 13 states have more than 1 lakh active cases,  6 states have 50,000 to 1 lakh active cases and 17 states have less than 50,000 active cases.

Lav Agrawal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of health said that states  like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Telangana, Chandigarh, Ladakh, Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands are showing continuous decrease in daily new COVID19 cases. On the other hand, states like Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Odisha, Punjab, Assam, J&K, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Puducherry, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh showing continued increasing trend in daily new cases.
