India’s COVID-19 cases near 2 lakh mark, Positivity rate touches 5%

Bhubaneswar: India’s COVID-19 tally nears the 2 lakh mark as the country added as many as 8171 new confirmed cases on Monday. With rising number of confirmed cases, the positivity rate or the portion of tests that were positive, has also increased to 5 per cent.

As per the latest data released by the Ministry of Health & Family welfare, India’s total cases rose to 198706 by Tuesday morning. The total number includes 97581 active cases and 5598 deaths while 95527 people have been cured and discharged from hospitals.

With 3709 recoveries in the last 24 hours, India’s recovery rate has improved to 48 per cent. However, with 204 more deaths, India’s death rate stands at 2.8 per cent.

The situation in Maharastra has remained a concern as total number of cases has crossed 70 thousand by Tuesday morning. Maharastra is followed by Tamilnadu and Delhi with 23495 and 20834 cases respectively.

Meanwhile, as many as 128868 samples were tested in the last 24 hours out of which 8171 samples are positive. With this, the country has tested total 39,66,075 samples till 2nd of June with a positivity rate of 5 per cent, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.
