New Delhi: After Serum Institute of India (SII), Bharat Biotech has also slashed its COVID-19 vaccine ‘Covaxin’ price to Rs.400 per dose for the state governments.

In a statement the Hyderabad based vaccine manufacturer said, “Recognising the enormous challenge to the public healthcare system. We have made COVAXIN available to the state governments at Rs. 400 per dose”.

“ We wish to be transparent in our approach to pricing which was determined by internally funded product development, several operationally-intensive BSL-3 manufacturing facilities and clinical trials” it added.

Yesterday, SII CEO Adar Poonawala also announced reduction of Covishield prices from Rs. 400 to Rs.300 per dose.

“As a philanthropic gesture on behalf of @SerumInstIndia , I hereby reduce the price to the states from Rs.400 to Rs.300 per dose, effective immediately; this will save thousands of crores of state funds going forward. This will enable more vaccinations and save countless lives” he twitted.

Last week, SII and Bharat Biotech had released price list for their vaccines. While, SII had fixed price of Covishield at Rs. 400 for state governments and Rs. 600 for private hospitals, Bharat Biotech had priced Covaxin at Rs.600 for state governments, Rs. 1200 for private hospitals and USD 15-20 for export.
