Sujoy Ghosh to direct a movie based on  Tagore’s ‘Kabuliwala’

Biznextindia : Director Sujoy Ghosh will direct the big screen adaptation of Ravindranath Tagore’s famous short story “Kabuliwala”. For the project the director has collaborated with Mantraraj Paliwal’s Miraj creations and Avishek Ghosh controlled AVMA Media. Filming of the ‘yet to be titled’ period drama movie will begin in UK in 2021.

Sujoy has also collaborated with Miraj Creations and AVMA Media for a second project titile ‘Uma’ to be directed by Ad film maker Tathagata Singha. In this project Sujoy will work as the creative producer.

 

“Kabuliwala’ is a popular short story written by Ravindranath Tagore in 1892. The story is about a merchant from Kabul, Afghanistan who comes to India every year to sell dry fruits. While living in Kolkat he becomes friends with a five year old girl ‘Mini’ from a middle class Bengali family.

The story has already adapted several times in both the big screen and the television. The first screen adaptation was made in the year 1957 as a Bengali movie in the same name. Four years later, a Hindi movie has also released on the same name. Recently, in 2018, a Hindi movie named “Biscopewala” with famous actor Danny in the role of the ‘Kabuliwala’ was also released. A television adaptation was also played in the EPIC channel in the series “ Stories by Ravindranath Tagore”.
