Sterlite copper begins production, dispatch of liquid oxygen

BizNextindia : Amid heavy medical Oxygen crisis in the country, Vedanta’s closed Sterlite Copper plant in Thoothukudi (Tamilnadu has commenced production and dispatch of the life saving gas. One of the company’s Oxygen plants commenced production on Wednesday and the first tanker carrying 4.8 tons of liquid oxygen has been dispatched TirunelveliI Thoothukudi.

“We are pleased to announce that the first batch of medical-grade oxygen has been dispatched from our plant in Thoothukudi. In view of the crisis, our focus was on commencing the production of liquid oxygen at the earliest which has been implemented immediately. One of our oxygen plants has commenced production from May 12. The first tanker carrying 4.8 tons of liquid oxygen is going to TirunelveliI Thoothukudi. We will be dispatching two oxygen tankers on a daily basis to begin with, and gradually scale this up as we expand production” the company said in a statement.

“The oxygen supplied is of 98.6 % purity and has received the necessary medical-grade certifications. We are now working with experts to resolve the logistics involved in transporting the oxygen produced in our facility to required parts of India, and are coordinating with the authorized nodal agencies in this regard” it added.

“My team members and I are honored that our facility and efforts are being directly put into helping save lives. We promise to make every possible effort to ensure that there is continuous production of oxygen from our plant to mitigate this crisis” Pankaj Kumar, CEO, Sterlite Copper.
