BSNL maintains its leadership in wired broadband segment : TRAI Data

Bhubaneswar: Loss making telecom PSU BSNL has maintained its leadership in the Wired Broadband service segment.

According to the data released by Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI) BSNL currently has 6.82 million wired broadband subscribers followed by Bharti Airtel with 3.09 million and Reliance Jio with 2.6 million subscribers.

Overall, India’s broadband subscriber base increased from 765.09 million at the end of February-21 to 778.09 million at the end of March-21 with a monthly growth rate of 1.70%.

Of the 778.09 million broadband subscribers, mobile broadband users dominate with 97 per cent market share while wired broadband consists of only 2.9 per cent market share.

Reliance Jio dominates the mobile broadband segment with a market share of  56 percent followed by Bharti Airtel with a market share of 25 per cent. Overall Jio controls 54.6 per cent market share in the broadband segment.

 

Overall telecom subscriber base up 1.12% in March

India’s overall telecom subscriber base increased from 1,187.90 million at the end of February-21 to 1,201.20 million at the end of March-21, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 1.12%. Urban telephone subscription increased from 657.72 million at the end of February-21 to 663.77 million at the end of March-21 and the rural subscription also increased from 530.18 million to 537.42 million during the same period.

The monthly growth rates of urban and rural telephone subscription were 0.92% and 1.37% respectively during the month of March-21.
