Amazon, Future Retail prepare for another round of legal battle in the Supreme Court

Biznextindia : Future Retail on Wednesday said that it’ll defend Amazon in the Supreme Court after the US-based retail giant has filed a special leave petition before the  Supreme Court of India against Delhi High Court’s Order.

The Delhi High Court on March 22 had removed the stay over Future proceeding with a Rs 24,713 crore deal with Mukesh Ambani’s retail company.

“We would like to inform that the Company’s advocates are in receipt of communication dated 13th April, 2021 from advocates of Amazon.com NV Investment Holdings LLC (“Amazon”) informing that Amazon has filed a Special Leave Petition before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India against the captioned Order dated 22nd March, 2021 passed by the Division Bench of the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi in in FAO (OS) (COMM.) No. 51 of 2021 and C.M. No. 11452/2021 in FAO (OS) (COMM.) No. 51 of 2021.  The Company shall defend the matter / proceedings through our legal counsels and keep you informed about outcome of the same” Future Retail said in a regulatory filing.

In its special leave petition before the SC, Amazon has said the HC order was “random”, “illegal” and “inequitable and unfair”. It said there should be a ban on the HC order till an outcome of its earlier plea related to the case.
