India reports nearly 40,000 new cases, Maharastra remains COVID-19 hotspot

Bhubaneswar: After adding over 36,000 COVID-19 cases yesterday, India on Friday reported nearly 40,000 cases. With this India’s total number of cases has surpassed 1.15 crore.

Sharp spike in daily COVID-19 cases has increased the fear of second wave of the pandemic in the country.

As per the latest data released by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, India’s total cases rose to 1,15,14,331 by Friday morning. The total number includes 2,71,282 active cases and 159370 deaths while 1.10 crore people have been recovered from the viral infection.

Maharastra has remained the COVID-19 hotspot of the country as the state has added 25833 new cases on Thursday which is 65 per cent of India’s total new cases of 39,726.

Meanwhile, India has vaccinated over 22 lakh persons yesterday taking the total vaccination 3.93 crore so far.

While Maharastra has continued to be the hotspot of the pandemic, three more states Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana-appear to face the risk of becoming the next COVID-19 hotspots.
