Delhi reports its first case of Omicron, 5th in India

New Delhi : India’s 5th case of Omicron variant of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Delhi. The patient, who returned from Tanzania, has been admitted to the designated Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital (LJPNH) in the national capital.

“Samples of 12 out of 17 positive passengers were sent for genome sequencing and one of them, who arrived from Tanzania, tested Omicron positive according to preliminary reports” said Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain.

Yesterday, yesterday two cases of Omicron cases reported in the country, one each from Jamnagar, Gujarat and the other from Mumbai. The two person’s are asymptomatic and have been kept under isolation.

India reported its first two cases of Omicron on 2nd December in Bengaluru, when a 66 year old South African citizen and a 46 year doctor were confirmed with Omicron.
