BHEL commissions 1320 MW IB Thermal Power Station in Jharsuguda, Odisha

New Delhi : Public sector Engineering major Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has successfully commissioned the 1320 MW IB Thermal Power Station (2x660MW) in Jharsuguda district of Odisha. The project is owned by Odisha Power Generation Corporation Limited (OPGC), a joint venture company of the Government of Odisha and AES, a US-based energy company. Previously, BHEL had set up two units of 210 MW at IB Thermal Power Station which are in operation for more than 20 years. A substantial portion of power generated from the project will be supplied to the Grid Corporation of Odisha (GRIDCO).

BHEL’s scope of work in the project encompassed design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection and commissioning of steam turbines, Generators, Boiler, associated auxiliaries and electricals, besides state-of-the-art Controls & Instrumentation (C&I) and Electrostatic precipitators (ESPs).

The key equipment for the project has been manufactured by BHEL at its Haridwar, Trichy, Hyderabad, Ranipet, Bhopal and Bengaluru works, while the construction of the plant was undertaken by the company’s Power Sector – Eastern Region, Kolkata
