MEA Jaishankar will visit US from 24-228 May amid vaccine scarcity, to meet US vaccine manufacturers

New Delhi: Amid shortage of vaccines, External Affairs Minister S.Jaishankar will be visiting the United States from 24 to 28 May. Apart from his meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, he is scheduled to hold crucial discussions with US corporations on COVID-19 related cooperation between India and the US.

‘External Affairs Minister will be visiting the United States from 24-28 May 2021. In New York, he is expected to meet UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. In Washington DC, External Affairs Minister will hold discussions with his counterpart Secretary of State Antony Blinken. He will also be meeting Cabinet members and Senior Officials of the Administration dealing with the bilateral relationship. External Affairs Minister will have two interactions with business forums on economic & COVID-related cooperation between India and the US” said a statement by Ministry of External Affairs.

According to a report in ‘the Hindu’, he will meet US vaccine makers to iron out supply issues. US vaccine manufacturers are keen to discuss a more centralized procurement of vaccines rather than a supply orders by states. US vaccine makers will also raise issues like Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of vaccines by the Indian Drug Regulator.
