Odisha Tribal boy gets support from SAIL to continue his study in IIT Guwahati

 Bhubaneswar : A timely financial support from SAIL’s Barsua Iron Minesin Odishahas backed Sushil Munda to seamlessly continue his study in IIT Guwahati. A Chemical Engineering student of IIT Guwahati, Sushil was in need to pay his semester fees to the college. Coming from an underprivileged tribal family of Sundargarh district in Odisha, Sushil sought a financial traction which has been provided by the SAIL’s Barsua Iron Mines located in Sundargarh.

Sushil’s father is a driver at local private mines in Sundargarh. His skimpy monthly income of Rs. 6000 is too lessto run his 12-member family. Despite all odds, Sushil completed his study in local schools and got admission at IIT Guwahati for 2018-22. However, he was unable to pay theleast semester fees. As it came to notice, SAIL Management took all initiative to extend financial assistance to Sushil to pay the semester fees of Rs. 32000. The amount has been handed over to his father Singa Munda by the Chief General Manager, Barsua Iron Mines, SAIL. With joy in his eyes Singa expressed gratitude to SAIL. SAIL has a plan to extend the support to Sushil for the remaining semesters too.

Besides academics Sushil is also a district level Hockey player in Odisha. SAIL always stands by deserving students. In the remote tribal populated mines area SAIL’s Raw Materials Division runs Suwan Chhatrawash project to adopt deserving school students of local villages and provide all supports for their schooling and other development with free food and hostel facilities.
