Odisha to procure 3.44 Crore Covishield and 10.34 lakh Covaxin for its free vaccination programme

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Sunday announced free COVID-19 jabs for all persons above 18 years of age.

Announcing this Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik said around 2 crore eligible persons will get free jabs for which the Odisha government will spend about Rs. 2000 crores.

For the free vaccination programme, the Odisha government has decided  to procure 3.44 crore doses of Covishield vaccine from Pune based Serum Institute of India (SII) and about 10.34 lakh doses of Covaxin from Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech.

The state government has written to these companies to provide the terms of conditions of delivery, price along with the schedule of supplies at the earliest.

Last week SII and Bharat Biotech have released price list for their vaccines. SII has fixed price of Covishield at Rs. 400 for state governments and Rs. 600 for private hospitals. Similarly, Bharat Biotech has priced Covaxin at Rs.600 for state governments, Rs. 1200 for private hospitals and USD 15-20 for export.
