Now Odisha farmers can get payment within 72 hours of Paddy Procurement

Bhubaneswar: Now Farmers in Odisha can get payment within 72 hours of procurement of Paddy according to Minimum Support Price (MSP) stipulated for Paddy. This one of the key decisions taken by the Odisha government under its Food and Procurement Policy for KMS-2018-19.

The State Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik yesterday approved the Policy, which targets to collect 37 Lakh MT of Rice, which is equivalent to 55 Lakh MT of Paddy.

The Paddy procurement will begin from 1 November, 2018 and will continue till 31 April, 2019. And Rabi Paddy procurement will begin from 1 May and will continue till 30 June, 2019. MSP for Common Paddy Rs.1750 and for Grade A Paddy Rs.1770 Per Quintal has been announced.

So authorities will ensure payment of their dues within 72 hours of purchase, said Secretary Food, Supply and Consumer Welfare, Vir Vikaram Yadav. He said that farmers will be able to sell their paddy as close as possible by locating good number of Paddy Purchase centres (PPC)s through PACS, LAMPS, WSHGs and Pani Panchayats.

Mr.Yadav said that the State Government will ensure that all the procuring agencies shall endeavour to bring more and more farmers into the Procurement Fold so that they receive the benefit of MSP. On an average State Government has been procuring 50 Lakh MT of Paddy, which is equivalent to 34 Lakh MT in terms of Rice annually.
