Record number of cases, fatalities in a single day as India prepares for 5th phase lockdown, Recovery rate rises to 47%

Bhubaneswar: Despite prolonged lockdown the coronavirus has continued to wreck havoc in India as the country added record number of new cases and deaths in the last 24 hours taking the tally to 1.73 lakh and death toll to almost 5000.

In the last 24 hours country has reported as many as 7964 new cases and 265 deaths. This is the largest single day hike in both confirmed cases and number of deaths.

As per the latest data released by the Ministry of Health & Family welfare, India’s total cases rose to 173763 by Saturday morning. The total number includes 86422 active cases and 4971 deaths while 82369 people have been recovered and one person has migrated.

Meanwhile, the good news is that country has also registered record 11264 numbers of recoveries in the last 24 hours raising the recovery rate sharply to 47.4 per cent while the death rate remains at 2.8 per cent.

Maharashtra has remained the worst affected state with 62228 confirmed cases and 2098 deaths. Maharastra is followed by Tamilnadu, Delhi and Gujarat with 20246, 17386 and 15934 cases respectively.
