Novavax results are promising, clinical trials are at advance stage of completion in India : Health Ministry

New Delhi: The results of the Covid vaccine produced by Novavax are promising. The vaccine will be produced in India and clinical trials are being conducted and are in advanced stage of completion, India’s health ministry said on Tuesday.

“Novavax results are promising. What we’re learning from data available in public domain that this vaccine is very safe & highly effective. It’ll be produced in India. Clinical trials are being conducted & are in advanced stage of completion” Dr VK Paul, Member-Health, Niti Aayog and chair of the National Expert group on vaccine administration for COVID-19 (NEGVAC).

“There will be some gap in production of Novavax vaccine for a while. I am also hoping they (US Company Novavax) would also start trials on children too” he added.

Yesterday US’ Novavax Inc. announced its Covid-19 vaccine candidate NVX-CoV2373 has demonstrated 90.4 per cent efficacy in the phase-3  trials.

“NVX-CoV2373, its recombinant nanoparticle protein-based COVID-19 vaccine, demonstrated 100% protection against moderate and severe disease, 90.4% efficacy overall, and met the primary endpoint in its PREVENT-19 pivotal Phase 3 trial. The study enrolled 29,960 participants across 119 sites in the U.S. and Mexico to evaluate efficacy, safety and immunogenicity, with an emphasis on recruiting a representative population of communities and demographic groups most impacted by the disease” the company had said yesterday.

Pune based Serum Institute will produce the vaccine in India.
