Markets : Sensex above 42,000 points, Nifty at record high, Metal stocks slip

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex on Thursday breached its all time high after touching 42,043 points, a jump of 171 points from the last closing value. The NSE Nifty, on the other hand, has jumped 44 points to start the day at 12,387. While the Sensex opened on Thursday at 41,959.19, jumping 86 points from the last closing, Nifty opened at 12,369.30 with an increase of 26 points.

Meanwhile, the Indian rupee opened higher at 70.79 per dollar on Thursday against previous close of 70.82.

Yes Bank has continued its dominance in the Nifty 50 index whereas Vedanta was the biggest loser on NSE. Yes Bank, which has announced the acquisition of SICAL Logistics, increased by 1.89% to Rs.40.50. Other top gainers are Nestle and Eicher Motors. On the other hand Vedanta dropped by 1.76% to Rs.161.75. Other major losers are JSW Steel and Tata Steel.

In BSE, the top gainers are Appolo hospitals and MMTC and the top losers are Reliance Capital and Vedanta.

Metal Shares dip

The Nifty metal shares down by 1.50% to 2877.70 points. The shares of Vedanta (down 2.00per cent), JSW Steel (down 1.88 per cent), Tata Steel (down 1.83 per cent), NTPC (down 1.53%) ,Hindalco Industries (down 1.52 per cent), Steel Authority of India (down 0.97 per cent), National Aluminium Company (down 0.73 per cent), Coal India (down 1.20 per cent).
