India’s Telecom subscriber base rises to 116 Crore in June, Jio added 97 lakh subscribers

NewDelhi: India’s Telecom subscriber’s base in India reached 116.8 crore at the end of June, with Reliance Jio adding the highest number of new customers to its mobile network, according to the data released by Telecom Regulator TRAI.

“The number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1,153.51 million at the end of May-18 to 1,168.89 million at the end of Jun-18, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 1.33%. The urban subscription increased from 644.90 million at the end of May-18 to 652.76 million at the end of Jun-18, and the rural subscription also increased from 508.61 million to 516.13 million during the same period. The monthly growth rates of urban and rural subscription were 1.22% and 1.48% respectively during the month of Jun-18” Trai said.

“Total wireless subscribers (GSM, CDMA & LTE) increased from 1,131.01 million at the end of May-18 to 1,146.49 million at the end of Jun-18, thereby registering a monthly growth rate of 1.37%. The Wireless subscription in urban areas increased from 625.66 million at the end of May-18 to 633.60 million at the end of Jun-18, and wireless subscriptions in rural areas also increased from 505.34 million to 512.89 million during the month. The monthly growth rates of urban and rural wireless subscription were 1.27% and 1.49% respectively” it said.

Reliance Jio led the growth in mobile segment by adding over 97 lakh new connections during the month. It was followed by Idea Cellular which added over 63 lakh new connections.

As on 30th June, 2018, the private access service providers held 89.83% market share of the wireless subscribers whereas BSNL and MTNL, the two PSU access service providers, had a market share of only 10.17%.
