India’s COVID-19 cases near 40 Thousand mark, Death toll crosses 1300

New Delhi:  Despite the lockdown, the Coronavirus pandemic has continued to wreak havoc in India as the total number of cases near the 40 thousand mark.

According to the latest figures by the Union Ministry of Health, India’s total number of cases has increased to 39980 which include 28046 active cases, 1301 deaths and 10632 recoveries.

With more number of recoveries, India’s recovery rate has improved to 26.5%, while the death rate remains stable at 3.2%.

Maharashtra has remained the worst affected state with 11506 cases which include 9142 active cases and 485 deaths. Maharashtra is followed by Gujarat and Delhi 3750 and 2510 active cases.

The government of India on May 1 extended the lockdown period for another two weeks till May 17. However, the  ‘Lockdown 3.0’ has been announced with some relaxations according to the risk profile of the Green, Orange and Red Zones.
