Mumbai: Despite slowdown in the economy Indian stock markets have continued to scale new heights.  The benchmark BSE Sensex on Thursday touched the 50 thousand mark for the first time ever in the pre-opening season.

However, the Sensex opened slightly below the 50K mark at 49968.65 points, but regained the 50K mark just a minute later (at 9.16 am). The index took little over three months to climb from 40,000 points to 50,000 points. Also, the index took 9 seasons to reach 50000 mark from 49000.

On the other hand the NSE Nifty-50 has breached the crucial 14700 mark.
