Private Hospitals can only charge Rs.150 per Jab as service charge

New Delhi: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced free COVID-19 vaccines for the 18-44 age group from 21st June.

In an address to the nation he said, as per the demands of states, 25 per cent of vaccination work with states will now be handled by the Centre, it will be implemented in the coming two weeks. Both State and Centre to work as per new guidelines in the coming two weeks. So the central government will now procure 75 per cent vaccines from the manufacturers and provide to states free of cost.

Those who do not wish to take free government vaccines may get vaccinated in private hospitals. However, private hospitals cannot charge more than Rs.150 per dose of vaccine.

He added that vaccine supply will be increasing in the coming days. Seven companies in the country are producing different vaccines, 3 vaccine trials at advanced stage. Also to increase vaccine availability, the process of procuring vaccines from abroad has been sped up.

Modi also announced that, in view of the hardships faced by people due to the pandemic, the Government has decided to extend Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana till Diwali. 80 crore poor will be provided free ration, under the scheme.
