Despite lesser number of cases, India’s positivity rate rises to 25% from 21% in 24 hrs

New Delhi: After registering over 4 lakh daily cases for several days, India’s daily COVID-19 cases and death toll witness a drastic drop Sunday.  However, the drop in cases is being attributed to lesser number of tested conducted during the day.

According to the daily COVID-19 data uploaded by the Union Health Ministry, India recorded 3,66,161 fresh cases and 3754 deaths in the last 24 hours against 4,03,738 cases and 4092 deaths in the previous day (Saturday) respectively.

However, as per ICMR data, as many as 14,74,606 samples were tested on 9th May (Sunday) which was 3.90 lakh lesser than the previous day’s figure of 18,65,428.

So, despite lesser cases, the positivity rate has remained around 25 per cent. Whereas, despite over 4 lakh cases, Saturday’s positivity rate was around 21.6 per cent.

With this, India’s COVID-19 tally and death toll have risen to 2.26 crore and 2.46 lakh respectively. Meanwhile, as many as 3.53 lakh people have recovered yesterday, taking the total number of recoveries to 1.86 crore.
