Cases rise to 81970, Death toll at 2649

Bhubaneswar: India likely to surpass China’s COVID-19 figures today as its total number of cases near the 82000 mark.  However, in terms of fatalities, India is still in a better position than China.

As per the latest data released by the Health Ministry, India’s total cases rose to 81970 by Friday morning. The total number includes 51401 numbers of active cases and 2649 deaths while 27919 people have been recovered from the deadly infection and one person has migrated.

With 1685 recoveries in the last 24 hours, India’s recovery rate has improved sharply to 34 per cent. Meanwhile, the country has reported 100 deaths in the last 24 hours keeping the death rate stable at 3.2 per cent.

According to the data released by US-based John Hopkins University, China has officially reported 84029 cases including 4637 deaths.

In terms of  total number of cases, India has remained as the 12th worst affected country after China. But in terms of death rate, India’s is quite low as compared to China’s 5.5 per cent.

Cases soar to 44.43 globally, deaths cross 3 lakh mark

 

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases has increased to 44.43 lakh which includes more than 3 lakh deaths. The USA has remained as the worst affected country with 14.17 lakh confirmed cases and 85,096 deaths. The USA is followed by Russia with 2.52 lakh confirmed cases but only 2305 deaths.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom has surpassed Spain and Italy with 2.34 lakh cases and 33993 deaths. Both Spain and Italy have finally managed to slow down the rate of growth in cases with 2.29 lakh and 2.23 lakh cases respectively.

Currently, six countries have 2 lakh or more cases-USA, Russia, UK, Spain, Italy and Brazil.
