Congress MP Shashi Tharoor granted regular bail in Sunanda Pushkar death case

NewDelhi : The Patiala House Court today granted regular bail to Congress MP and an accused in the Sunanda Pushkar Death Case, Shashi Tharoor. Two days back he was granted anticipatory bail.

“There is no obligation to file a formal bond. The Anticipatory bail was already granted by the Sessions Court” said the judge. The public prosecutor and Tharoor’s lawyers also opposed the petitions filed by senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, asking the court’s nod to assist the prosecution in this case. Senior Advocates Kapil Sibbal and Abhshek ManuSinghvi appeared in the court for Tharoor.  The court scheduled on July 26 for the review of documents and review of the application.

The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in the Patiala House Court had summoned Tharoor today on the basis of the charge sheet filed against him by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death case case.

On Thursday, Special Judge Arvind Kumar had granted Tharoor anticipatory bail on the condition that Tharoor furnishes a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh and also directed him not to leave the country without permission. The judge also asked him not to tamper with evidence.
