30% salary cut for PM, all ministers for a year, MPLAD fund to be suspended for 2 years : Govt

New Delhi : In the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, the union government on Monday announced 30% pay cut for Member of Parliaments (MPs) which include the Prime Minister and all ministers. The President and Vice-President have also voluntarily agreed for a pay cut, union minister Prakash Javdekar said after the union cabinet meeting.

The union cabinet has also decided to suspend the MP Lad scheme for a period of two years i.e. 2020-21 and 2021-22 and the entire money will be transferred to the consolidated fund of India which will be used in the fight against Coronavirus. The cabinet has agreed to promulgate an ordinance for the purpose.

India’s total number of Covid19 cases has crossed the 4000-mark by Monday. Out of the total number of cases, 3666 are active cases and 401 closed cases which include 109 deaths and 291 recovery cases.
Maharastra has been the worst affected state with 748 cases (647 active cases) and 45 deaths, followed by Tamilnadu with 571 cases and 5 deaths and Delhi with 503 cases and 7 deaths.
