World crude steel production dips 1.4% in August on lower Chinese output

World crude steel production slipped by 1.4 % to 156.8 Million Tonnes (MT) in August due to drop in Chinese production, data released by World steel Association said. China, the world’s largest steel producer, produced 83.2 Mt in August 2021, down 13.2% on August 2020.

“World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 156.8 million tonnes (Mt) in August 2021, a 1.4% decrease compared to August 2020” said Worldsteel.

On the other hand, India produced 9.9 Mt, up 8.2%. Japan produced 7.9 Mt, up 22.9%. The United States produced 7.5 Mt, up 26.8%. Russia is estimated to have produced 6.3 Mt, up 4.4%. South Korea is estimated to have produced 6.1 Mt, up 6.2%. Germany is estimated to have produced 3.0 Mt, up 6.7%. Turkey produced 3.5 Mt, up 7.1%. Brazil produced 3.1 Mt, up 14.1%. Iran is estimated to have produced 2.5 Mt, up 8.7%.
