World crude steel output up 3.3% in July despite drop in Chinese output

Biznextindia: World Crude Steel production increased by 3.3 percent Year on Year (YoY) to 161.7 million (MT) in July 2021, data released by World Steel Association said. Despite drop in Chinese production, world crude steel production remained in the positive zone due to increase in production in other leading steel producing countries like India and Japan.

Steel production in India, the 2nd largest steel producer grew by 13.3 percent to 9.8 MT. While, Japan’s steel output grew by 32.5 percent to 8 MT, USA’s output grew by 37.9 percent to 7.5 MT.

However, China, the world’s dominant steel producer, produced 86.8 Mt in July 2021, down 8.4% on July 2020.
Russia is estimated to have produced 6.7 Mt, up 13.4%. South Korea produced 6.1 Mt, up 10.8%. Germany produced 3.0 Mt, up 24.7%. Turkey produced 3.2 Mt, up 2.5%. Brazil produced 3.0 Mt, up 14.5%. Iran is estimated to have produced 2.6 Mt, up 9.0%.
