JSW’s proposed 12 MTPA Steel Project to have a captive port, Odisha grants in-principle approval

Bhubaneswar: In a big boost to the proposed 12 MTPA integrated steel project by JSW near Paradip, the Odisha government has allowed a Captive Jetty at Jatadhar Muhan near  the Paradip port.  According to sources, the state government has granted in-principle approval for the project after getting a favorable advice from MECON.

While JSW had requested a captive port for its proposed project, but IPICOL, the invest promotion body of the state government had asked for consulting firm MECON’s view about the essentiality of a Captive Port for the proposed 12MTPA Steel Complex.

IPICOL had informed the DoCT that the proposal for a Captive Jetty was approved in the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) in its last meeting held in 29 March, 2018. After the approval of the Competent Authority, the DoCT has informed the approval for a Captive Jetty at Jatadhar Muhan for JSWUSL. While JSWUSL had proposed to set an Integrated Steel Complex at Paradip with a capacity of 12 MTPA and the Steel Major wants to set up Captive Port at Jatadhar Muhan, which will be beneficial for the Project.

Earlier, the Sajjan Jindal controlled steel Major has said that this Captive Port is essential for the proposed ISP and had urged the Odisha Government to approve the proposal. After the proposal presented to the State Government, lot of discussion and deliberations was taken and as the State Administration could not reached a conclusion over allowing a Captive Port, it was decided in the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) to ask the opinion of MECON in this regard.
