Tata Motor’s domestic sales dips 38% in May

Biznextindia: Tata Motors, the country’s largest seller of commercial vehicles reported 38 percent dip in domestic sales at 24,552 units in May as against 39,530 units in April 2021.

The dip in monthly sales is being attributed to lockdowns enforced by different state government due to the deadly second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, on Year on Year (YoY) basis, the company has registered a sales growth of 456 percent as against minimal sales of 4418 units in May 2020 due to nationwide lockdown.

The company’s domestic commercial vehicle sales dropped by 32 percent to 11401 units in May 2020 from 16644 units April 2021. Similarly, passenger vehicles sales also dropped by 40 percent to 15181 units in May 2020 as against 25095 units in April 2021.

However, if we compare the sales on Year on Year (YoY) basis, the company has reported 666 percent growth in domestic commercial vehicle sales and 382 percent in passenger vehicle sales in May 2021.

The record growth in YoY sales is mainly due to low base in May 2020.
