Maruti Suzuki’s March domestic sales plunge 48% on Lockdown

Biznextindia : Maruti Suzuki India Limited, India’s market leader in passenger car segment has reported 47.9% drop in domestic sales at 76,976 units in March as against 147,613 units in March 2019. The company’s exports have also dropped by 55% to 4712 units, as against 10,463 units in March 2019.

The company has attributed the sharp plunge in sales to the nationwide lockdown enforced by the government since 22nd of March.

“The sales during March 2020 are not comparable with sales in March 2019 due to the suspension of operations with effect from March 22nd 2020, in line with national policy” said Maruti Suzuki.

In the entire 2019-20 financial year, Maruti-Suzuki has reported 16% drop in Sales at 1,563,297 units against 1,862,449 units in the previous financial year. While, the company’s domestic sales fell 18% to 1,436,124 units, exports fell 6% to 102,171 units, as compared to 108,749 vehicles in FY19.
