Maruti Suzuki reports 4% rise in December Sales

Biznextindia: Maruti Suzuki India Limited, India’s top carmaker has reported 4% growth in its December sales, indicating revival of consumer demand in the domestic market. The company had reported 1.9% drop in its November sales.

As per the information submitted by the company at the stock exchange, it has sold a total of 133,296 units, which includes 124,375 units in domestic market, 1,360 units of domestic OEM sales and 7,561 units of exports. Maruti Suzuki has sold 124,375 vehicles in December, an increase of 2.4% as compared to December 2018. Exports have also increased by 10% to 7561 units.

The company has witnessed impressive 27.9% growth in its compact cars segment at 65,673 units. The Compact segment includes models like New WoganR, Swift, Celerio,Ignis, Baleno and Dzire. Meanwhile, the company’s sales in mini segment, which consists of models like Alto, S-Presso,Old WagonR, dropped by 13.6% at 23,883 units. Overall the mini and compact segment has reported sales growth of 13.4% at 89,556 units, against 78,995 units in December 2018.

Meanwhile, the cumulative sales during the April-December period has dropped by 1178,272 units a drop of 16%. Domestic sales during the 9 month period has also dropped by 18.3% to 1,082,748 units.

The company has reported continuous fall in sales in most of the months in the 9 month period, owing to weak consumer demand and confusion related to the transition of BS4 to BS6 vehicles. However, after the government’s clarification at the end of August, the demand the demand situation has improved.
