Sanitary napkins exempted from GST, Return filing process simplified

NEW DELHI:  After facing strong criticism from several quarters, the GST Council today decided to exempt sanitary napkins from GST. Earlier, 12% GST were collected   from Sanitary napkins.  Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 28th GST Council meeting, Delhi Finance Minister Manish Sisodia said that tax on bamboo also has been slashed to 12 per cent. This would mean there would be no input tax credit available, even though inputs in the production of sanitary napkins are taxed.

The Council has also simplified the return process. The simplified form will not be of more than 2 pages.

GST Council approves the turnover threshold for composition scheme from Rs. 1 Crore to Rs.1.5 Crore. Composition dealers will have to pay monthly, but will need to file returns quarterly.
